12/17/19 Kimura, Darst

Ron is back! Sweet. - Like the "show me how good it is" approach. Worked kimura. Need to definitely create a path to get to this. And be prepared not to get caught with this. 1- Work off the bump sweep. Good grab to the collar is key to setting this up for a good "push" in addition to the bump. This goes along with an advance in position being better than the submission. 2- If you dont get the bump sweep kimura. Have to get to side body to do this well. Get the arm, go to side, lock the legs, pull the kimura close to the body as this make this stronger. 3- If you dont get the kimura, go to the guillotine. Have to make space! When you set the guillotine, feed the lapel. Look away. Worked more darst choke. I thought I had this more than I did. Was missing some key details. 1- Have to fall to side on this one as well. Have to have a good lock on the arm, the wrist isnt going to cut it unless you are looking for more of an arm crank. 2- Two on one the arm, rea...

Stand up game still needs work: - Still uncomfortable in the stand up spar. - Coming close enough to punch is challenging. Keeping the triangulated guard to the head helped a little. - Creating angles was challenging. - Was out of breath half way through all of the rounds. Really liked working the mace. For ground work: 1- Worked darst choke from guard and from top. Really like this choke. 2- Worked the arm bar from guard

12/10/19 Class, more guillotine defense and Kimura

Tumbles! Did some falls, did some falls off the mat, did some slides to a roll off the edge of the tall mat. Sort of makes you feel like a little kid... other than the high forward falls, which do not make you feel like a kid! More guillotine defense and execution. - defend the guillotine, make sure to get that arm to protect. - Nice sweep from guillotine: Arm over the back, they lift, as they come back down, grab the knee and roll to arm over side. End up in side mount. Rolls: - RELAX. - Choke from back. - Neck crank with legs on scissor. Had a kimora from top but need to remember to strip the arm by moving it forward and then pull. I tried muscling the arm by shaking it off. - Need to find a balance between being relaxed and attacks. Stay calm but progress forward.

12/9/19 Class, Guillotine defense

Worked hand control/escape: If being pulled, pull the wrist. Turn the wrist and create new angles. Duck the wrist under to create new angles. Worked Guillotine defense Standing: If you can get hand under, duck under. If you cannot get the hand under, go around and follow that arm. From Guard: stand, legs together, arm under, fall toward the ground to break the Guillotine. Knee on belly is king.

12/5/19 Class

Drill arm bars Drill triangles Drill what you know from side Drill what you know from mount Drill sweeps Monkey lines- bottom person escape from side control, top person advance position. Rolling: Pass the guard and progress right to armbar. Dont want to have to fight on bottom, Keep a few things in your back pocket that are quick and easy that you dont reveal, such as arm and leg drag to armbar, such as mount to whatever, darce, etc. True for life- dont reveal what else you have up your sleeve. Hold some characteristic or trait that they didn't know you had to win. WIN.

12/2/2019 Class, Attack

Practice what you know from guard and side control: Nice head and arm choke learned:  1- Trap the arm with the head on the far side then move over to squeeze the head and arm. Armbar: 1- Move up the body 2- Provoke the arm bar with the choke. Have to make them believe its what you are after so they roll to side. 3- Go either to S mount and stay tight or come into technical mount and maintain tightness. 4- Bring the shoulder up and punch the arm that is being trapped. This forces the shoulder out. Great reminder by Sensei that this is not Walmart and you pick what you want. You have to allow the opponent to show you what is needed. If they give you the technical mount and roll sideways, control that. If the S mount makes more sense to go to, do that.  Kimora is typically available and easy. Watch for the baseball bat choke. Getting the baseball bat choke: 1- One hand over and one hand under 2- Roll under the opponent 3- Elbow must be outside...

Tightness

Control and tightness. Maintain tightness in the kimora, arm bar, side body. If there is space, you lose it or afford them an opportunity out. Only want space if you are trying to escape a mount of some sort. Give space/Take space: Give to catch, take to control, then repeat.

11/25/19 Class

Discussed going to the NAGA competition in January in Cinci. Commited to going. Lot of harder rolling. Look for the trap. Heavy pressure. Ezekiel choke. Work standing in guard base and submissions. Lapel choke setup. Need to get a little diversity in rolling in.
