However each position has its own strengths and weaknesses; 4 limbs rather than 2 or 3, mobility or lack of, power, speed, leverage, gravity & weight, what if there is more than 1 person and I need to sweep and get to my feet fast, etc..
Solid survival defense must come first, using elbows forearms, knees and shin to protect vital areas.
Smooth Reversals, and escapes must not put you in worse positions. Solid Transitions are crucial to any success. Positional changes and submissions will create an opening, proper timing and opportunity are of highest importance.
Solid Position before submission, do not force submission. Make your position great, make their position worse.
Don't Scramble unless there is a weapon, defend and counter survive. Make things hard for them, let the other person become exhausted. Lose your wind and mind, lose the fight.
Develop your game, strategy, flow charts and continue to learn about each area, improve weaknesses (mental, physical, understanding)
Study strategy like studying chess, create checkmate or mousetrap situation
Jiujitsu and the martial arts are a way of life not a game, fad or hobby. Be consistent in your training, learning, and practice.
Develop and respect great partners, great partners are worth their weight in gold and can determine your success or failure. Great partners and teachers in my life covering 44 yrs of training, can be counted on two hands, and all have became some of my greatest friends, quality teacher's & dojo's are less than 2% of all those out there in the world and it gets worse every year. Only 5% make blue, then only 5% of them make purple, etc..
At one time you knew zero Jiujitsu, less than a beginner, you were not a Jiujitsu prodigy, great men and women have invested their lives preserving and passing it down to you and others, give back, help preserve, build others, classes and the Dojo. Everyone is a good person, but if your mostly self centered and only about you (the norm in today's world, you haven't even scratched the surface, both in life and Jiujitsu. Only you can decide what quality of person you are.
Enjoy, Good Luck, and all the Best
Kyoshi
