1/28/19 Class, Jamie on Guard Pass and take the back

The low, under-leg stack pass offers a lot of control. Can really wait out the opponent to open the guard. Once the guard is opened, control the hip, drop back, bring the arm holding the lapel down and bicep up. This forces the hips down. Come under the leg and grab the lapel while maintaining the grip, drive the knee to the face until they relent and pass to side mount. Excellent training. Standing guard pass: Two keys, 1- grab the lapel first. 2- control and push the bicep is second. Stand and posture up. Fall to pass. Interesting way to take back, like the reverse thought of the guillotine. Instead of wrapping the head, reach in front of the head, gable grip around the body, fall to the shoulder. RNC! Excellent class.

Tournament time

Went to Fuji Tournament in Westerville on Jan 18. It was a great experience. 1- Learned a lot: I have a lot to learn still on the mat! Even though there was outward relaxation, I froze up a little on the mat. I need to understand that my opponent is going to have a game as well. My opponent will have a weakness I need to find. I need to be better and quicker at finding and assessing the weakness based upon body type. I hate triangles. I still hate triangles. I learned a ton in the weeks leading up to things. Working out, how to eat, taking mind off the game and putting it back in the game. Realized that need to find and roll with some different body types to be prepared and it would be helpful if they were higher belts. Mentality is very important. Do I think that the win is mine? Is it mine to take? Do I want to win or just show up? Overall, this was a bucket list item for me in the sense that I always wanted to do a BJJ tournament. My wife is the best and so supportive. 1/13/2020 Practice every submission you know from:

Guard: Cross choke, guillotine, sweep, kimura, arm bar Mount: arm triangle, americana, straight arm bar, kimura, loop choke, punch choke (go to side mount), prompt arm bar with choke Side: Mouse trap armbar, kimura, paper cutter, knee on belly, mount, choke with own arm?, under head collar choke Pass guard to armbar Defending the triangle: stack, pressure, turn to the arm thats trapped. Rolling felt great. Turned it down a dial and had a lot more control! Felt great. Lot of improvement.

1/9/2020 Very Hard Roll

Rolled and went pretty hard tonight, trying to be a little more aggressive. 1- How do I plan to takedown? 2- SIngle leg- go deep. 3- Allow them to shoot, guillotine, pull guard. 4- Standing choke: Grab inside the lapel same side as arm, if they duck under go to a loop choke.
